You’re not just looking for fun activities in Christchurch, you want fun activities that will suit the whole family, and make your visit to our city a memorable one. So we’ve put together this list of fun things to do with the kids – from indoor fun to outdoor adventures, and everything in between!

Discover Antarctica

Explore the vast, icy landscape of Antarctica without ever leaving Christchurch. The International Antarctic Centre transports visitors to this otherworldly continent with a range of immersive experiences that allow you to see, touch and feel it – as well as learn about its beauty and fragility through educational exhibits.

Brave an Antarctic storm in a Hägglund off-roader; befriend husky dogs at their home on base camp; mingle with penguins who waddle up close for photo ops or play together (unseen) underwater via video projection technology called ‘4D’; experience Antarctica from all four dimensions using virtual reality headsets; leave feeling like new knowledge can make change possible within your own community by taking action towards environmental protection efforts back home.

Get up Close to Animals

Orana Wildlife Park is New Zealand’s only open-range zoo. The park covers over 200 hectares of land, and will definitely take a whole day to explore! Visit lions, rhinoceros and tigers…the list goes on. An all time favorite has got to be feeding the giraffe by hand; this encounter can be found near the entrance so make sure you check times before heading there early for best results.

Pet the Animals

Arion Farm Education Park is a great place to get up close and personal with animals. For just $3, you can purchase animal food that they will happily eat right out of your hand as you walk around the park; there’s even an option where all funds go towards feeding them, providing veterinary care for sick or injured animals in their care, and ensuring proper shelter conditions.

Surfing

A great way to learn how to surf is by hitting the waves in New Brighton and Sumner. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, lessons and gear hire available for all ages make surfing easy! Laugh as you fall off your board over & over again; it’s okay if mistakes happen — just have fun learning something new.

Ride the Tram

Hop on and off the iconic Christchurch Tram to explore this beautiful city. The restored historic trams provide great commentary as you go around town, so take your time!

See Native Wildlife

Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is the perfect place for kids to learn about native birds and feed cute farmyard animals. You can even get up close with slippery eels!

Burn Off Energy

Flip Out and Mega Air are the perfect spots to catch some child-like fun while enjoying a coffee with friends. From trampolining, climbing walls or parkour courses there is something for everyone.
